Orasac is located 12 km from Dubrovnik. It was founded in early 11th century. All the houses in the main village are bound tightly ensuring the village better protection from different raiding groups, such as Neretva pirates. There are many old churches (such as the Saint Nicholas church build in 1250) and chapels, including the Arapovo castle, where the chief magistrate of Florence, the gonfalonier Piero Soderini, is believed to have stayed when he left Florence in 1512. Nowadays it is the center of 5 surrounding villages such as Gromaca, place known for its cave and traditional ecological tourism., and Ljubac located in a valley between three hills, which form an astonishing natural amphitheatre. In these villages there are farmers who produce |
