For most of us, summer is all about partying and having fun. Well, sometimes you just need to rest and take a small break from all the dancing, drinking and going to sleep at dawn. Is there any better place to rest than on the beautiful island of Lokrum just 10 minutes by boat from the Old Dubrovnik Port.
The nature and the architecture are breathtaking, and the sea is as clear as it gets. The surroundings are stunning. You can read a book, take a swim, sunbath on the rocks and feel completely relaxed. Just make sure you don’t forget to put on the sunscreen! I love to get coffee and ice cream (try walnut-yum!) in one of the island’s few cafes, and sometimes I’ll go for a refreshing cocktail as well. There are also a few restaurants you can try. One of the pluses is definitely that the island never gets too crowded!
You can take a walk around the island and see the beautiful Gothic-Renaissance Benedictine monastery, look at all the beautiful terraces and enjoy a small, intimate garden with a view on the sea. Close by, you can also explore the botanical garden, the olive grove and plenty other nature beauties. No wonder why plenty of people decide to get married there.
One of the main attractions are definitely beautiful peacocks strolling around and showing off their feathers. See if you can spot a bunny or two, but don’t try to get close to them, they aren’t really friendly.
Lokrum is a place that has positive energy in the air (never mind the curse, but if you’re interested read more about it here), trust me, you just have to go and feel it.
