Smells, tastes, customs of Upper villages
Easter holidays in Dubrovnik are unthinkable without the special events that have been organized in Primorje region for seven years already. These events promote the customs and traditions of the upper villages of Dubrovnik hinterland featuring the specialities and customs typical of the region. It is the opportunity to present the ancient customs of the traditional Primorje Wedding, which have been cherished for centuries. It is an ancient wedding custom, comprising even some military elements, characteristic for the festive folk costumes and the bride’s jewellery, which reflected the financial status of her native home.
This year’s “Easter in Primorje” will take place on Easter Sunday, April 3, 2016 starting at 3p.m. in Mrčevo. The main organizators are The Association of Dubrovnik Littoral Wedding, the City of Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik Tourist Board.
This year the participants are: The brass band Zaton, Dubrovnik fusiliers, Dubrovnik Littoral Wedding performance, Linđo, along with a dozen cultural companies from Dubrovnik-Neretva County, Dalmatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Apart from seeing the Primorje Wedding customs, the visitors will have the opportunity to taste numerous specialities of the Primorje area – such as black bryony and wild asparagus, cottage cheese, smoked ham, spring vegetables and sweet delicacies – and take part in the “egg-painting”. Among the rich selection of local food and beverages, the speciality is definitely a domestic lamb from the farm Antunovic.
