Although devotion to the Heart of Jesus already existed in the medieval mystics, and the earlier, widely accepted only in the late 17th century when it became a symbol of supreme love of Christ and the victim. The spread of this cult and time corresponding to the construction of palaces and chapels which were built in Baroque extensive restoration of Dubrovnik after the great earthquake of 1667. was, therefore, not surprising that the Sacred Heart of Jesus elected to the titular home of the chapel for a family devotion Dubrovnik patrician family.
