Today we will be presenting a beauty treat to many girls, and probably a few boys as well. Maris Gavranić is a diplomacy and international relations student, a training beast and she loves makeup, so much in fact that she created an instagram page just for the love of her hobby: @maris_make_up. I spoke to her about some trends and products, so here’s what she had to say. (Don’t miss out on some beauty tips at the end too!)
Tell me a bit about your love for makeup and beauty?
Ever since I was a little girl I was looking at magazines, different actresses makeup, I used to even put makeup on my Barbie dolls, what looked horrific but to me back then was perfect. I was also stealing my mum’s makeup, but it was not until I was 13-14 years old when I started doing makeup on myself properly. Of course in those teenage years we all had quite a few fails, such as the black pencil eyeliner with no mascara, blue eyeshadow etc.
How did you achieve the skills that you have now?
Over the years my knowledge grew and I think the biggest reason for that was definitely Youtube, it offers infinite amounts of tips and tricks, and while I was watching all the beauty channels and following gurus I simply learned more and more. Of course having talent is necessary, but being persistent in learning new skills makes you better and better after time.
I think that makeup is a game and nobody should ever judge or bully someone for the way they look, it’s simply a game with endless opportunities, just have fun with it!
What’s your perfect makeup for a summer day in Dubrovnik, to look great during the heat?
Of course SPF is not even questionable, a spray of Mario Badescu facial spray before and after makeup, a light hybrid of a foundation and a moisturizer the Urban Decay – One & Done, a touch of shimmery bronzer and highlighter, a bit of pastel toned eyeshadow (orange or pink tones), waterproof mascara and I’m good to go! I don’t like matte makeup in the summer, as those products tend to clog your pores. And as for the night out look, it’s all about the highlight and the bronze, tanned skin and that beautiful summer glow is gorgeous.
What are your favorite products?
For me the most important product is for sure a moisturizer, without it I do not leave the house. Of course it needs to have SPF in it because the sun is the worst enemy to the skin. Secondly, a bronzer-my current favorites are MAC – Give me sun and Benefit – Hoola. I also love a good highlighter, lipgloss or lipbalm and a mascara. For skincare the Biotherm – Liquid glow serum is fantastic, as well as the La Roche-Posay – Rosaliac serum, perfect if you have any problems with redness or hyperpigmentation.
Do you have a beauty secret?
Konjac sponge + micellar water + serum + moisturizer=perfect skin! But one of the most important things is to never go to sleep with makeup.
What are in your opinion the worst makeup mistakes?
I don’t want anyone to feel bad about this, I also had plenty of fails in my makeup history, but some of the worst things are definitely over-plucked and over-drawn eyebrows, and the newly trend of eyelash extensions which in my opinion look horrible when they’re not done right, and that is unfortunately way too often.
